The Role:

Candidate will be responsible for maintaining and reviewing the monthly accounting for a fast-growing lease portfolio. Candidate will assist with reviewing work performed by the Staff Accountants along with training new team members. Candidate will perform analysis of certain income statement and balance sheet accounts to ensure appropriate accounting treatment. This role will also require routine interaction with other departments to ensure relevant financial and accounting information is captured timely and accurately.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to assist in preparing, analyzing, and maintaining complete and accurate financial reports for a fast-growing lease portfolio
  • Review base rent schedules, straight-line rent calculations, and lease abstracts for new leases
  • Analyze terms of leases to assess common area maintenance (“CAM”), real estate tax, security deposit requirements, and asset retirement obligations
  • Drive the monthly close process by ensuring all accruals and journal entries are calculated recorded accurately
  • Perform analytics on various income statement accounts to review monthly rent and tenancy costs for assigned regions
  • Review reconciliations prepared by Real Estate Accounting team of selected income statement and balance sheet accounts
  • Collaborate and formulate working relationships with cross-functional teams including Lease Administration, Finance, Real Estate, and Legal within WeWork
  • Work closely alongside the SOX team to enhance and maintain control procedures
  • Assist with providing support to external auditors to ensure compliance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; CPA certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of real estate/lease accounting experience, with top-tier public accounting being a plus
  • Experience reviewing work and managing team priorities
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting required
  • Attention to detail and problem solving, with a demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in standard suite of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Working knowledge of Workday and Visual Lease a plus
  • Detail oriented and self-sufficient
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
