Description Facebook Reality Labs is looking for an exceptional acoustic research scientist to join our growing team in Redmond, WA. This full-time position is well suited for someone with a strong research interest in advancing the state of the art in immersive audio experiences for augmented reality. Our interdisciplinary team is working to solve difficult problems at the intersection of acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio and signal processing. This role requires a background in room acoustic capture, simulation, and analysis, particularly with spatial microphone arrays. The successful candidate will have strong skills and experience in blind system identification, de-reverberation, echo cancellation, and microphone array processing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research spatial hearing in interactive virtual environments

  • Design, develop, and execute listening experiments, including custom software development

  • Serve as a resident expert supporting research in spatial hearing, psychoacoustics, perception, auditory localization

  • Build applications in MATLAB, MaxMSP, and/or Unity to drive real-time audio prototypes, demonstrations, and tests

  • Understand and stay up-to-date on the latest research literature

  • Understand and exploit of the principles of auditory perception

  • Collaborate with other teams and research groups on inter-disciplinary and multi-modal research

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuro-physiology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar

  • 2+ years of experience programming in MATLAB, C, or C++

  • 3+ years experience with audio signal processing, echo cancellation, or blind system identification

  • 3+ years of experience in real-time audio and audio algorithms development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the design and execution of psychoacoustic experiments

  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques
